Golden Morn Puff Squares

Golden Morn Puff Squares

September. Apart from being my birthday month, it is also the month where parents everywhere inhale sharply (school fees) and then exhale slowly (no more play date and activity planning). Children move up to the next year, and get excited by all that a new school year brings.

When Nestle sent me their new Golden Morn Puff cereal, I was genuinely excited by how good it tasted. It had all the qualities of a feel-good cereal; texture and taste and moreishness. Something about it reminded me of childhood, and I was inspired to create a recipe reminiscent of the kind my mum used to make for us for our school lunch boxes.
Of course the Golden Morn Puffs are delicious in milk, like a traditional cereal; but if you are after another way to enjoy them that the whole family can enjoy, then I definitely recommend this recipe. Let the kids enjoy them plain, or with white or milk chocolate. Dipped in dark chocolate, they take on a sophisticated inflection for the grown ups.
Be careful though. These taste so good and your will power will be challenged.

Ingredients

150g (3 sachets or 3 cups) Nestle Golden Morn Puffs
150g marshmallows
1 tablespoon butter
50g dark chocolate (or milk chocolate if you prefer)

Method

  1. Gently melt the butter in a pan and once it is melted, add the marshmallows. Stir the marshmallows as they melt.
  2. Add the Nestle Golden Morn Puffs to the pan and stir through briskly to combine the marshmallows and the puffs. This step takes only about a minute and you have to work quickly.
  3. Once these are combined evenly, take the pan off the heat and transfer the gooey mix to a dish using a wooden spoon or spatula. Flatten the mix so it is spread evenly.
  4. Leave to cool in the fridge for an hour or so and then cut it into squares.
  5. If using chocolate, melt the chocolate gently in a microwave or bain marie and dip the squares in chocolate. Chill in the fridge until the chocolate is set, then serve and enjoy!

This recipe makes 16 squares.

Allergens: Golden Morn puffs contain no wheat, however they are not categorically gluten free. If you are strict coeliac, then please avoid this recipe.
